Message from Fire Chief Don Todd
Welcome to the official website of the Plantation Fire Department. We invite you to look through this site and get to know what makes the Plantation Fire Department so special.
The Plantation Fire Department is one of the most unique departments in the State of Florida. Originally established in 1957, the department was founded with the community-spirited concept of neighbors helping neighbors. Over the years, that spirit has become woven into the fabric of the community and remains the very backbone of our organization.
Today the department operates as a combination department, which means its membership is comprised of both volunteer and career personnel. These dedicated professionals work side by side, every day, providing a wide variety of services to the community.
During the past five (5) years, we have, with the support of our Mayor and City Council, positioned the Department to continue moving forward into the future. We maintained our ISO rating of two (2), improved living conditions within the stations, and provided state of the art equipment to ensure our members can continue to deliver high quality services to our citizens.
Passage of the Public Safety Bond was an affirmation of support by the community for their Fire Department. With this gift the following goals will be realized:
- Replacement of the original Fire Station #1. The new fire station will be 100% NFPA compliant.
- Additions to Stations 2 & 5, modernizing them to 2018 standards.
- Purchase of two new ladder trucks and two fire engines (replacing apparatus well over 30 years old).
In October of 2017 the City approved the addition a 5th rescue (EMS) unit, which has enhanced our service delivery capabilities and, as expected, reduced response times in the western portion of Plantation so they are comparable to the rest of the City.
As we continue move forward we will develop new and challenging goals for the department, one of which will be to develop the department’s first Master Plan this will provide a road map for success in the future.
