Public Works
Public Works, located just off Cleary Boulevard, is a service provider to the many residents who live in Plantation and to all of the city departments. Comprised of approximately 120 employees, our staff is divided into five different divisions, all of which function together as the backbone to the City’s daily operations. We are a wonderful example of capitalizing on internal resources to perform daily tasks that normally would require outsourcing at considerable expense. Our daily responsibilities include new construction, remodeling and repairs, plumbing, electrical and janitorial maintenance, painting and carpentry, landscaping, irrigation and weed control, roadways cleaning and maintenance, vehicle maintenance and repairs, and traffic sign maintenance.
We also oversee the City’s solid waste, bulk, and recycling operations, Hurricane preparation, post storm debris removal, and hazardous waste collection events.
Working behind the scenes and around the clock, our goal is to provide these services in a professional, courteous and expedient manner. The daily efforts of the Public Works department are so much a part of life and living that they’re sometimes taken for granted. A well-run Public Works program may not be particularly conspicuous to the public; only in its absence is it suddenly missed and its importance understood. So, when the flowers bloom and the trees are trimmed, when the road is smooth and the bridges stand strong, when the stop sign is bright and the street markings help you along your travels, and when the drainage systems work properly preventing damage to your most prized possessions, know it’s your Public Works Department at work!
