The mission of the Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Department is to support and facilitate quality, value added development and redevelopment that is both environmentally and economically sustainable and consistent with Plantation’s high standards.

The Department is comprised of several divisions.

Planning & Zoning

The Planning and Zoning divisions are responsible for the implementation, interpretation, and enforcement of the City’s adopted Land Development Codes, as well as the development of the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

Economic Development

The Economic Development division helps foster a business-friendly environment that promotes retention and expansion of local businesses, welcomes new business and employee opportunities into the City, enhances the overall business climate, and fosters beneficial relationships between local government and the business community. Additionally, Economic Development staff provide support to the Plantation Gateway/State Road 7 and Plantation Midtown advisory boards, and manage the day-to-day operation of the Community Redevelopment Agency under the oversight of the Community Redevelopment Agency Board of Directors.

Housing and Grants

Administer state and federally funded housing and community improvement programs including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP).

Environmental Landscape

The Environmental Landscape division works with businesses and residents to help create a symbiotic connection between the natural characteristics of the environment and the realities of a growing, developed municipality. They strive to provide the highest quality of professional services through development review, code enforcement, outreach, education opportunities, and public relations efforts.

Local Business Tax and Vacation Rental Licensing

Any business operating within the City, including home-based businesses and short term/vacation rentals, must be licensed by the City prior to operation. Local Business Tax and Vacation Rental licensing requirements benefit the community as a whole, by ensuring businesses comply with necessary requirements and regulations in order to function both legally and safely.  In doing so, they help protect public health and welfare and maintain quality of life within residential and commercial neighborhoods and corridors.
