Hometown Heroes Banner Program
We’re excited to recognize our active service members and veterans with ties to the City of Plantation. We will display a banner with an eligible veteran’s portrait along Broward Boulevard (between SW 70th Ave. and SW 75 Ave.) for approximately three months before Veterans Day. (Please note that the banners may be taken down earlier than expected in case of storm preparations.)
After the banner is taken down, it will be available for the service members or their families to keep. Banners may be presented at the City Council meeting or picked up at the Parks and Recreation Department within two months of being taken down.
Ten (10) veterans are honored every year. Applications are due by July 1st and processed on a first-come, first-served basis. If needed, a waiting list will be generated.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be current or former residents of the City of Plantation or the current employees of the City of Plantation. Former residents must have lived in Plantation for at least two years.
- Be active service members or honorably discharged veterans who serve or have served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, National Guard-Active Reserves, Navy, Marines, or Space Force.
- Submit all required supporting documentation.
- Pass a basic background check (A copy of driver’s license or other government-issued ID is required. For departed service members, full name and date of birth must be provided).
- Provide an official/in-uniform portrait (head, neck and shoulders) in the form of a high-resolution digital photograph or a 300-dpi or higher scan.
- Sign a photo waiver.
The City also offers “In Honor Of” program that provides our residents with opportunities to remember and honor their loved ones. While memory tree and brick paver options apply to all residents, the bronze plaques that are engraved and mounted on the commemorative wall at Veterans Park are only available to veterans and service members.
