Information Technology
Information Technology provides support to the ever-evolving challenge and demand for secure, efficient storage and retrieval of information through enhanced technologies to support the work environment while promoting efficiencies and excellence in customer service. The department is responsible for all network infrastructure design, maintenance and security.
The Information Technology (IT) Department handles all aspects of technology for the City of Plantation, and has created of a state-of-the-art data center located at an off-site, hardened facility. The City utilizes technologies from industry leaders such as Microsoft, Cisco, Dell, Motorola, and Intel, to bring its many technology projects to fruition. Throughout various City locations which include Police and Fire departments, the Information Technology Department utilizes the latest in fiber, Ethernet, telephony and wireless technologies to support high speed access to applications, fulfill the need for fault tolerance and security, and enable public safety mobile users.
The Information Technology team is comprised of the IT Director and a complete staff of IT Professionals with extensive experience in supporting the city’s network infrastructure, devices and software applications which allow the various departments to daily serve our constituents.
The IT department must make sure that the equipment it invests in both optimally serves the needs of the City while staying within budget. Information Technology provides for the secure interdepartmental sharing of information and applications, which allow the City to function on a day-to-day basis.
Support also includes all software systems, databases and applications that provide shared and unique resources required by each department which allow the City to function on a day-to-day basis. The staff proactively analyzes these systems to internally develop solutions resulting in cost avoidance for outside services. The systems include Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Financial Systems, Permitting, Human Resources, Emergency Response, Records, Work Orders, Website, Utility Billing, File Repository and Recreational. The goal is to provide 99.99% up-time and ensure high levels in security for the data within these systems.
The City of Plantation Information Technology Department understands the growing need to continue enhancing the City’s technology infrastructure and pursues innovative new technologies to provide the highest levels of service to both its internal and external constituents.
