Public Affairs
The Public Affairs Division is responsible for all community outreach, information, and educational activities.
The Division consists of five working groups: Public Education, Public Information, Recruitment/Retention, Media Services, and Social Media.
Public Education
Pub Ed is the largest of the functional workgroups and provides a variety of public education programs throughout the year.
Car Seat Checks
The Pub Ed Workgroup includes two certified car seat technicians who provide car seat installations every Thursday. Residents can make an appointment to have their child car seat installed or checked by calling 954-797-2150 during normal work hours.
Public Information
Lieutenant Aston Bright serves as the Fire Department Public Information Officers (PIO). The PIOs provide newsworthy and media information during emergency incidents. They also serve as members of the City of Plantation Joint Information Team which gets activated during a major event like a hurricane.
News related information about Fire Department activities is distributed through press releases, journal articles, and Twitter @plantationfire. The Public Information Group is also available to the media for feature pieces on topical or seasonal issues.
Recruitment/Retention
The lifeblood of a volunteer fire department is its members. Plantation is the largest volunteer fire department in Florida with more than 190 active firefighters. Maintaining those ranks and providing a continuous supply of new recruits is the job of the Recruitment/Retention Group. The Recruitment/Retention team attends all public events in the City offering information about the Fire Department and the benefits of “Becoming One of Us.”
Media Services
If a picture is worth a thousand words the Media Services group speaks volumes. Media Services provides photo and video support for all Fire Department and Association activities. They maintain a vast library of images and videos including historical records of the Department. Media Services also produces the Training Division’s video series.
Social Media
The Social Media Group is a newly added function within Public Affairs. They are responsible for the Department and Association websites, Facebook pages, and Twitter account.
