Provide proof of property ownership from the Broward County Property Appraiser’s website. If the applicant is not the property owner, a notarized letter of authorization from the property owner(s) or managing member of the business is required for non-hosted vacation rentals.

• If property is owned by a business entity, please provide ownership information found on Sunbiz. If the corporation is an out of state/international entity, registration is required with the State of Florida Division of Corporations. 

Apply for all City, State, and County Licenses

• Department of Business and Professional Regulation – If the property is a homestead, owner-occupied, and renting a room only, you are exempt from providing this license.

• Department of Revenue – If the hosting platform collects and remits the required State of Florida sales tax on your behalf, you will be required to acknowledge such on the City’s Vacation Rental Affidavit of Compliance, provide the City with a copy of your third-party vendor’s certificate of registration with the Florida Department of Revenue and provide the City proof that your address is registered with DOR in lieu of obtaining a Certificate of Registration with DOR.

• Broward County Tourist Development Tax – If the hosting platform collects and remits the required Broward County Tourist Development Tax on your behalf, you will be required to acknowledge such on the City’s Vacation Rental Affidavit of Compliance, provide the City with evidence of your third-party vendor’s current and active account with the Broward County Tax Collector and provide the City proof that your address is registered with the Broward County Tax Collector in lieu of registering with the Broward County Tax Collector.

• Broward County Business Tax Receipt – Application can be completed online or in person at Broward County Records, Taxes and Treasury Division, Governmental Center Room, 115 S. Andrews Ave. Room A 100, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.

• City of Plantation Business Tax Receipt – You may review the City of Plantation Business Tax Receipt  process online. 

Obtain a commercial certificate of insurance evidencing insurance coverage to cover liability for injury or harm to occupants within a vacation rental.  Such liability coverage shall be in effect while the property is being used as a vacation rental.  Please note that an updated copy of the Certificate of Insurance showing the City of Plantation as Certificate holder shall be remitted to the City upon receipt to maintain compliance with the City’s Vacation Rental Ordinance. The amount of coverage shall be as follows:

• Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability
• Each Occurrence: $1,000,000
• Policy Aggregate: $2,000,000
• Personal & Advertising Injury: $1,000,000

Obtain copy of interior sketch identifying internal floor plan with each room labeled clearly, bedrooms to note placement of closets, placement of noise detection device in the exterior of the structure, and evacuation map.  Interior sketch may be hand drawn.

Obtain copy of current exterior site sketch identifying property boundaries, structures, accessory structures (e.g. pools, spas, hot tubs, fencing, placement of noise detection device) and off-street parking spaces. Exterior site sketch may be a current survey or aerial photo from the Broward County Property Appraiser.

Provide a sample copy of the lease agreement (reflecting the property address) furnished to your guests. Ensure the required information found in the Vacation Rental Ordinance is a part of the agreement. A sample lease addendum with mandatory information is available from the City.

Complete applicable Affidavit of Compliance demonstrating knowledge of the responsibility to maintain initial and on-going compliance with the City’s vacation rental ordinance and applicable state, federal or local laws.

Please note, incomplete applications will be rejected. You will be notified of the missing requirements via email from the City. You are required to resubmit the information and/or documents that were missing within fifteen (15) business days.  Failure to submit the missing information shall result in denial of the application

Once a complete application and application fee are submitted, the applicant receives an email directing them to pay all other applicable fees. The following fees will be due at this time:

• Vacation Rental Registration Fee
• Safety Inspection Fee
• Business Tax Fee
• Vacation Rental Penalty Fees, if applicable

Upon payment of both the Vacation Rental Registration fees and the City of Plantation Business Tax fees, the property will be scheduled for a safety inspection.
