Criminal Investigations Division
While most criminal investigations are conducted (and concluded) by the first responding Officers of the Patrol Division, there are complex investigations that require additional support from members of the Criminal Investigations Division. That support comes in many forms.
Crime Scene Investigations Unit
This unit, led by a civilian supervisor is comprised of civilian employees that have been trained in the collection and preservation of crime scene evidence. A typical scene will be photographed, processed for fingerprints, and any DNA evidence collected.

These employees’ roles are being re-defined as modern technology evolves. Traditionally the role would consist of studying past criminal activity with the aim of assisting in an on-going investigations, as well as predicting future crimes of a similar nature. With modern technology being what it is, these employees are increasingly assisting with data acquisition and subsequent data analysis to support on-going investigations.

Inter-Agency Cooperation
More often than not investigations are not wholly contained within the jurisdictional lines of the City of Plantation. It is for this reason that it is imperative that we cooperate and work with our city, county, state and federal counter parts. Members of the Plantation Police Department participate in many endeavors to ensure we have adequate networking capabilities in place. Examples would include Task Force participation in the FBI’s South Florida Violent Crimes & Fugitive Task Force, FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, Secret Service’s South Florida Fraud Task Force, DEA’s Task Force, Broward County Drug Interdiction Task Force, Broward County’s Narcotics Interdiction Task Force, and Broward County Organized Crime Task Force.
