Detective Joseph Miller

On April 23, 2021, while working as the Broward County Drug Task Force and assisting the DEA, Detective Joseph Miller was struck by gunfire during an undercover drug operation. Detective Miller was able to return fire, striking the suspect. We are happy to report that Detective Miller has since made a full recovery and is back to his normal role within the Broward County Drug Task Force.

Police work is inherently dangerous. Undercover narcotics work even more so. On the afternoon of April 23, 2021, Detective Joseph Miller became the fourth police officer in Plantation Police Department history to be shot in the line of duty. While assisting the Drug Enforcement Administration, in partnership with the Broward County Drug Task Force, an operation was put into motion to identify a target with three kilograms of cocaine. During the operation Detective Miller was struck by gunfire. Detective Miller showed a clear act of courage and bravery while risking imminent danger to himself while protecting the lives of other detectives.
