If you are planning to excavate on your property where utilities such as electric, water, telephone, and natural gas lines are buried, Florida state law requires that you notify the affected utilities at least two days prior to excavating. The utilities are required to locate their utilities for you within two working days. This law aims to protect you from possible serious injury and from liability if your digging damages any underground utilities.

The City of Plantation Utilities Department is a member of the Sunshine State One-Call of Florida. This means, at least two full days prior to your excavation work, you dial one simple number – 811 – to notify all utilities of your excavation project and request the utilities locate their underground facilities for free! You may also call their toll-free number 800-432-4770. Both numbers are available Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm.
