Wastewater Collection
This program is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of the city’s residents and businesses by the efficient pumping of the city’s wastewater to our RWWTP. This includes maintenance and repair of 197 miles of gravity sewer mains, 57 miles of pressurized force mains and 125 lift stations, which pump wastewater through the city to the plant. (Wastewater includes water from showers, bathtubs, sinks, washing machine, dishwasher, and toilets.)
Service workers replace a 36” valve on an effluent deep well disposal main. This main is capable of sending 24 million gallons per day into the 2 deep wells and then pumped 3,000 feet down into the boulder zone. The average daily waste water flow from all areas of Plantation to the waste water plant is 12.6 million gallons. The state of Florida permit allows the Utilities Department to treat a maximum capacity of 18.9 million gallons a day.
The City of Plantation has 125 lift stations that pump all waste water from residential and commercial areas to a lift station where it is then pumped to the Regional Waste Water Treatment Plant for treatment and disposal.
