Sec. 27-251 Nuisance plants (often termed exotic) means certain non-native plants or trees as determined by the Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council, that are altering native plant communities by displacing native species, changing community structures or ecological functions, or hybridizing with natives. This includes non-native trees such as , Schinus terebinthifolius (Brazilian Pepper and Florida Holly), Melaleuca quinquenervia (Punk Tree, Cajeput or Paper Bark), Casuarina spp. (Australian Pine), and Ricinus communis (Castor Bean), Leucaena leucocephala (Lead Tree), and others as amended from time to time.
Sec. 27-265(g)(4) Nuisance trees, as defined herein, are exempt from the provisions of this section, except for pruning standards and the requirement to obtain a permit prior to their removal. However, no fee shall be assessed for this removal permit.
